Rediscovering Night Photography in Marina Bay

5-6 MINUTES READING TIME · 04 APRIL 2026

When I first began planning my private photography tours, I knew I had to put myself back in the shoes of my guests. That meant going out to experience the route that I had planned for, not just to scout the locations, but to reconnect with the feeling of being out there. Taking a step back and absorbed the surrounding, look at if there is any infrastructure update, and playing previsualize technique it in my head.

Night shoot at Marina Bay

It had been a while since I last did night photography — the pause began during explosion of Covid, and somehow I let it slip away. I still shoot occasionally but not on a frequent basis. But as I rolled out my gear and stepped into the Marina Bay district, everything came rushing back. The glow of the skyline, the play of lights on the water, the energy of the magnificent city after dark — it reminded me of why I first fell in love with photography.

Self-Proclaimed Light Show
Billions of dollars have been poured into Singapore’s skyline—commercial skyscrapers and luxury residential towers rise above Marina Bay, each glowing like a self-proclaimed light show.

45-Second Long Exposure
With a 45-second long exposure, the Singapore Flyer slowly turns, tracing a gentle arc against the night sky. Its motion feels almost still to the eye, but the camera reveals its quiet elegance.

Once my eye fixed on the scene, tripod lay firmed on the ground, I gently pressed the button on my cable release, 30 minutes later, I simply couldn’t stop. What was meant to be a focused session to meet some objectives turned into hours of exploration. Marina Bay is simply picturesque everywhere you look, and I felt that addictive process of creating images pulled me deeper into the night. I can understand why tourists from all over the world are so into it.
